San Rafael city leaders will soon be weighing plans for construction of a 180-unit apartment complex along Los Gamos Road in Terra Linda.
It is a large development for Marin. But the region’s need for housing, especially affordable apartments, and the site, located near public transit and jobs, makes this project one that deserves fair and thorough consideration.
Over the years, it has been politically easier for city and county officials across Marin to find ways to discourage housing development plans. Over the past decade, there may be more projects that have been proposed and dropped, due to local political opposition and decision makers’ reluctance, than have been constructed.
There are likely many residents who side with the feelings of a speaker at a 2017 county hearing, urging supervisors to approve the acquisition of the San Geronimo Golf Course and turning it into open space in order to halt “rampant” development he said was taking place across Marin.
